Tax Collection

Worker’s Compensation

According to the Kansas Department of Labor, if in any employment to which the Workers Compensation Act applies, personal injury by accident arising out of and in the course of employment is caused to an employee, the employer shall be liable to pay compensation to the employee in accordance with the provisions of the workers compensation act. Employers with a gross annual payroll of $20,000 or greater must provide worker compensation insurance through a private insurance company, qualified group-funded pool, or as self-insured.

New employers to the state are assigned a new experience rating in Kansas relevant to the industry and type of business. Positive balance employers’ rates are adjusted annually based on the ratio of the size of the fund balance to total payroll.
