Appreciation Luncheon
Shawnee Economic Development Council, Shawnee Chamber
of Commerce present awards to city businesses.
SHAWNEE, Kan. – Tuesday at the Shawnee Business Appreciation Luncheon local businesses received awards from the Shawnee Economic Development Council (SEDC) for their continuous support and contributions to the city. Over 100 people were in attendance at Shawnee Town Hall to recognize 19 businesses, as they were honored for their dedication and support to the community.
The selection criteria for the honor includes having projects that were completed or nearly completed in the last 12 months, projects that involved a capital investment of at least $1 million, and/or projects that created a significant amount of jobs in the community. Awards were presented by SEDC Executive Committee Chair Tom Langhofer. The following businesses received Business Development Awards: CEAH Realtors; Christian Brothers Automotive; Eiko, Ltd.; Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant; The Helping Hand of Goodwill Industries; Little Monkey Bizness; Surface Center Interiors, LLC; Walgreen’s #11924; Woodsonia Investments, LLC. Zack Allen accepted the award on behalf on Little Monkey Bizness and said, “I just want to thank the city, Economic Development, Chamber and community for helping us from beginning to end to get our business running. We appreciate your support and we plan on being in Shawnee a long time.”
The Downtown Revitalization Award was created by the SEDC executive committee to recognize the business that made the most significant improvement to the outside appearance of a downtown, commercial building during the last 12 months. Recipients were selected by the Shawnee Downtown Partnership. Congratulations to the winner of the Downtown Revitalization Award; Nationwide Transportation and Logistics. Kim Isenhower with Nationwide Transportation said, “We are so surprised and pleased to accept this award. We started Nationwide Transportation out of our home, and have grown to revamp this business location and our company.”
The Downtown Impact Award was created to recognize the business-development project with the greatest impact on the city of Shawnee’s downtown area in the last 12 months. Projects could include added investment and property-tax base; significant job creation; and/or enhanced visitor attraction. The recipient was selected by the Shawnee Downtown Partnership. Congratulations to the winner of the Downtown Impact Award; Donovan’s Service. Pat Donovan accepted the award and thanked the City of Shawnee for being so great to work with.
J.R. Robl, Regional Project Manager for the Kansas Department of Commerce, presented the award for the East Central Regional Business Excellence Award. Straub Construction was the winner of this statewide award. Ernie Straub, III, with Straub Construction accepted the award, and Straub stated, “You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with, and I am lucky enough to have great people to work for me. We are very thankful for this award and to Shawnee for their business.”
The Shawnee Economic Development Council also recognized the Governor’s Exporter of the Year finalist, Bio-Microbics. Charley Vogt presented the award to Bob Rebori with Bio-Microbics on behalf of the Kansas Cavalry Board of Directors, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and the Office of Governor Mark Parkinson.
Chairman of the Board of the Shawnee Chamber, Tim Harmon congratulated the winner of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame Award. The Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors created this award as a special recognition of a business that has played a major role in shaping the face of the community and making a tremendous contribution to the city over a long period of time. Kirk Gutekunst, with Bayer HealthCare, LLC accepted the Hall of Fame Award and said, “I would like to thank the Shawnee Chamber for this prestigious award, and for the dedication, and support of the Chamber, City, and Economic Development Council.”
Tom Langhofer wrapped up the luncheon by saying “I think we can all see the common theme today with all the award winners was gratitude towards The Shawnee Economic Development Council, Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, and City of Shawnee. I have always been pleased with Shawnee, and it has been a wonderful city to work in for over 20 years.” The Shawnee Economic Development Council would like to thank and congratulate all the award winners for their hard work and dedication in the Shawnee business community.
