What is the mission of the
Shawnee Economic Development Council?
The Shawnee Economic Development Council (SEDC) was established
in 1994 to promote the general welfare of Shawnee, including
but not limited to fostering and encouraging all facets of quality
economic development-industrial, commercial and residential-which
will have a significant impact on the economic growth of the
community. The City of Shawnee, the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce
and members of the business community are partners and contribute
financially to the SEDC effort.

Is Shawnee and Shawnee Mission the same thing?
There is no City of Shawnee Mission. The name Shawnee
Mission is used by the post office, and generally includes
most areas in Johnson County, Kansas. Shawnee Mission
is also a School District that includes parts of several
cities in Johnson County.
Are you a department of the City of Shawnee?
While the Shawnee Economic Development Council and
the City of Shawnee work closely together, the SEDC is not
a department of the City of Shawnee. However, the City does
provide funding to help the SEDC achieve its goals of bringing
economic development to Shawnee.
